The faces of CHD-Pinterest awareness challenge

The week of February 7th is Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week. Did you know that 1 in 100 babies is born with a heart defect? The first time I heard this, I couldn't believe it! 1 in 100....that means in my school, there could be 7 kids that have heart defects of some kind. I wonder how many haven't been diagnosed liked Abby's was before may 18th. Pinterest is doing a project to make people more aware of congential heart defects, it's awesome. I know that you've all read Abby's story, but there are so many other stories out there!!! There are so many other little miracles taking place in the world all of the time. Hi. I just read your story on Stef's blog, When Life Hands You a Broken Heart. Abby's story is amazing. I'm glad to hear she's doing well. I was born with a CHD, and faced the possibility of a transplant a couple of times. It was very scary. Reading Abby's story gave me a new perspective on it. Thank you for sharing. Abby's Miraculous Story

Abby was your typical, healthy, soccer-playing, intellingent, perfect little girl. On May 18th, 2011, only one 6 days before her 12th birthday, her life changed forever. Abby's heart stopped beating while she was in her PE class at school. Lucky for us, there were many capable and amazing people that were there to perform CPR until the paramedics arrived. CPR was done for approximately 10 minutes, and then her heart was shocked twice, and thankfully, this was enough t bring Abby back to life. Three hours later, Abby was on a life flight jet being flown to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City. That night she was diagonosed with restrictive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and was told she would need a heart transplant. After moving to Salt Lake and being on the transplant waiting list for almost 2 months, Abby was given the gift of life, she received her new heart. We have a long journey ahead of us, but our lives have already been filled with numerous miracles and we have been continually touched by the goodness of others. Although this has been extremely hard on the Doman family, we have received many blessings and continue to do so daily. We will never take another day with Abby for granted. Every day is a gift.
